Who are we?

Working Wonders is a Canberra-based organisation that provides clothing, shoes and accessories to women in need in the ACT region for interviews and other important life events. These are provided free of charge for the women to keep. Working Wonders is staffed by volunteers.

Why did we start the service?

There are some very real barriers to women entering or re-entering the workforce in the ACT. Our research showed that a gap existed in the area of providing appropriate clothing for interviews. As a result, we started a service that provides appropriate, high-quality clothing and accessories for these women attending scheduled job interviews. The service has since expanded to provide for other important life events.

Who can access the service?

Any woman with a scheduled job interview, or other important life event (such as a court appearance, funeral, etc…) can access the service. Examples of women who may require the service include:

  • Early school leavers
  • Women who have had a major life-changing illness
  • Women who have had a major change in personal circumstances, such as women in crisis accommodation
  • Women who are refugees
  • Women who have been primary carers who may be entering the paid workforce for the first time, or returning after a long absence.
